CASSIA AURICULATA AN ANTI MICROBIAL AGENT

The aerial parts of Cassia auriculata were weighed accurately and defatted With petroleum ether. The defatted mare was then refluxed with 70% ethanol for about 5-6 hrs. The 70% ethanolic (Flavonoid rich fraction) extract of the plant of Cassia auriculata was then subjected for the evaluation of antimicrobial activity and for the estimation of Total Flavonoid Contents. 70° 0 ethanolic (flavonoid rich fraction) extract of the plant of Cassia auriculata were subjected for the determination of antifungal and antibacterial activities.

From all the studies, it was found that the Flavonoid rich fractions showed potent antidandruff and antibacterial activities. It was also observed that 70° 0 Ethanolic (flavonoid rich fraction) of the plant showed maximum antimicrobial activity. The isolated phytoconstituents were encorporated into gel and shampoo. All the prepared formulations were subjected to the various evaluation parameters such as colour, pH, spreadability, drug content, drug diffusion etc.

Antimicrobial activity of the llavonoid rich fraction of the plant was evaluated by detecting the zone of inhibition with respect to desired microorganisms. Skin irritation test on animals was done and stability study of the formulation was performed as per lCH guidelines. The flavonoid rich fractions have shown a significant antimicrobial activity with special emphasis on M. furfur.

The antidandruff activity of the flavonoid rich fraction of Cassia auriculata was reported as a first time. The antifungal and antibacterial activities were attributed to the rich amount of flavonoid present in the 70% alcoholic extract of Cassia auriculata. The flavonoid rich fraction was formulated into a gel and shampoo preparation. The drug released (flavonoids) was studies with the help of franz diffusion cell with the help of Qurecetin as standard.

CINNAMON AS ANTI MICROBIAL AGENT

Hands are primary mode of transmission of microbes and infections. Through hand hygiene a simple and least expensive means of prevent health care associated infections specially derived from environmental surfaces. The present research was aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of Cinnamon oil extract found that it showed better antimicrobial activity. Also the research was carried out to formulate and evaluate the Hand wash gel containing Cinnamon oil. The anti-microbial activity of the formulated hand wash gel was tested against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacilius subtilis and pseudomonas vulagaris by spread plate techniques and the results obtained were compared with standard antibiotic.

WONDER DRUG FAKE OR REALITY ?

1938: Di-ethyl stilbestrol (DES) was created. DES was the first synthetic estrogen ever synthesized; it was cheap to produce, more potent than natural estrogen, and could be taken orally. In the rush to make and market DES, Eli Lilly became one ofthe drug's major manufacturers. In America alone there were 267 drug companies that made and distributed DES and other similar synthetic estrogen because it was un-patented and easily produced. No controlled studies were ever conducted by the drug companies to determine the effectiveness or safety of DES for use during pregnancy, even after some scientists started questioning its efficacy in the 19505. As early as 1953, research revealed that DES did not work that DES actually brought about higher rates of premature birth and infant mortality yet DES continued to be prescribed to pregnant women for decades.
